November 25 - December 1, 2018 in Mauritius at the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, we, as part of the Kazakhstan delegation, presented and defended the universal significance and uniqueness of Kazakh folk horse breeding rituals. After approval by the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the traditional spring rituals of Kazakh horse breeders were included in the UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

For many years in a row, the "Terisakkan Spring" festival was held in the Ulytau region, which was based on the ancient Kazakh horse-breeding spring rituals, when after a long winter nomads tied the first foals, let a stallion into the herd, tried the first koumiss. Since ancient times, this has been celebrated as a great folk holiday, accompanied by a whole range of ritual actions. They were seriously interested in UNESCO experts, who for two years attended the festival, studied Kazakh folk horse breeding traditions. During this time, on the basis of the "Terisakkan Spring" ethnic festival, the Ministry of Culture and Sports published a photo album about horse breeding national traditions in three languages, and the Kazakhfilm film studio shot a 20-minute documentary.

At the very beginning of the meeting, its participants honored with a minute of silence the memory of the Kazakh expert in the field of cultural heritage protection Elena Khorosh, who was the author of the nomination for traditional rituals of horse breeders, and previously participated in the preparation of successful applications for inclusion in the World Heritage List of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassavi and Tamgaly petroglyphs.
