December 28, 2018
Ulytau national historical, cultural and natural reserve-museum received an official document confirming the inclusion of the rites “bie baylau (tying mares),“ aygyr qosu ”(including the stallion in the herd) and“ kymyz muryndyk ”(using the first kymyz) in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of the mankind under the nomination "Traditional spring rites of Kazakh horse breeders". The decision to include the rites into the UNESCO list was taken at the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), that took place on 26.11-01.12.2018 in the capital of the Republic of Mauritius - Port Louis city.
That should be noted that it is the first experience of Kazakhstan to participate in the sessions of the Committee as a member of this prestigious body of UNESCO. Among the delegators presented our country there was also the director of Ulytau reserve-museum Baktiyar Kozhakhmetov. Ulytau reserve-museum started working on the preservation of these rites from 2010. Since then, these rites have grown into an annual folk festival called "Tersakkan Spring". In 2015, they were included in the National List of Elements of the Cultural Intangible Heritage of Kazakhstan. Last year the festival was held under the name of Kokmaisa
Very soon in the future, Ulytau reserve-museum is going to spread these rites to the fraternal countries related to the nomadic culture.
